MrOizo's JZA70 - 2JZGTE, V160 and (almost) T04Z!

Since the people here will appreciate this more, I will add my build thread here :)

*******

Well, well, well. (Three holes in the ground)
Thought it was about time that I posted what I have been up to with my car for the last 6 months. I have kept this on the down-low as when I talk about doing things I never end up doing it.
I ended up going on a road trip with Lisa (the boss lady) and Ryan (Twolitre) to the lower North Island to both buy JZA70’s in July 2007 – How cool is that :D

On the way down we stopped in Waiouru... I like cannons? :P

Image

Ryan got a Red JZA70 and I, a JZA70-R. My one came with a single conversion. Went pretty good for what looked to be a back yard job… apparently done at a shop. No worries though!
While we were down in wellington, we stayed at my grandparents in Foxton. My nana knows that me and my cousin are fans of the Supras and called him up, and we ended up having a mini supra meet on my Grandparents front lawn.

We followed SH1 up from Foxton and turned off onto SH49 and took the scenic tour… pretty cold and frosty!

Decision to Modify

Got the car back and it was running pretty good… sucking the gas back for some reason though :o
Only thing was the auto box which was playing up and not changing down into its first gear. Instead of replacing the auto with another one, I thought it made sense to go manual, and since I was going manual I might as well go 2JZGTE. While looking, I managed to find a 2JZGTE. It had attached to it a V160… 6 Speed!
Bought it and had it here in no time – thanks to Jason (TOYWGN) who helped pick it up..

It Scone!!!

Once the engine arrived, we had the old 1JZGTE out and had the new 2JZGTE and V160 dummy fitted in just to see how it all sat.. No worries here. Things sat very nice. Used the JZA70 mounts and the 98+ insulators from a JZA80.

Only major things that needed modifying were:

The Shifter

The JZA70/MA70/GA70 have the mid shifter boxes while the JZA80’s have the remote ones. This needed shortening by about 4 inches. This was done thanks to Lee at Trevor Morris Radiators, http://www.trevormorrisradiators.co.nz.

Here is the shifter finished - same as above but this time with a coat of paint :D:

While i had the engine out i thought i had better change the rack bushes which are as old as the car and help it to go around corners :)
There are RonnieK's bushes... would like a full set but too much $$ :(

The Wiring
Hmmm.... where to start!?!?!

Image Image Image Image Image Image Image

Turned out the wiring wasnt all that hard. got it done in a few hours after labeling the wiring.

Plug names, with pin numbers and names and whereit got pretty much all wiring info:

Draining the V160 and getting ready to fill with Royal Purple:

Engine dummy fitted and looking pretty good:

A bit too big to fit in thuuuurrrr!

As you can see, the shifter sits back just a little (approx a inch)

Wow it's been almost a year since I updated :o

I am half way (well more like a fifth) of the way through a single turbo conversion.

Some reasons to get this thing under way:

Fouling on clutch master:

Fouling on brake master :

Then:

During removal:

Taadaaaaa... Gone!!

Random shot of the tank on the ground. Awaiting new pump - still deciding on where to buy (Bosch 040/044)

A little something that i have been working on over the last week or 5.

Image

Have been working on the wiring for it over the weekend. Should be good to go in a few more days when i find time around work. Looks much prettier when in the car ;)

******

The objective of this was to have more room under the dash for the 2JZ ECU which i just couldnt get in there without cutting the glove-box up.

I copied the flanges of the stock air box and then got some ducting to put in between... Im sure NASA would be proud - right? :)
