JZX90 Tyres size suggestions

Post by xMRWHIPPIEx »

hey guys,

just wondering what tyre sizes you're running on you x90's?

i have a 93' cresta and will be running 18x9 +15 all round with 225/40R18 on the front and i want to run 255/35R18 on the rear... do you guys think i'll need much guard work to make the rears fit?

alternatively i could run a 235/40R18, but i'd like as much rubber as i can get on the road.

thoughts/pics would be rad.

You would have to flare the rear guards to run a 255 width tyre. And flaring the rear guards on X90's looks shit because it leaves a bulge just behind the rear door. If I were you, I'd definetly get 235's.

I run 9J +22 front with 225/40 and 10J +24 rear with 235/40. Guard work required front and rear but nothing too extreme. You could make a 255/35 work but it would be more hassle than it's worth IMO.

Hmmm okay, ill have a look into it.
the plan is to roll the guards front and rear completely flat anyway, to allow as much room as possible without flaring them.
on the upside i work for a tyre importer so i suppose ill just try one on and see just how bad it is, then go from there

It was more than a light roll to get those wheels and tyres on that 90
Looonie may be able to spread some light on this

Yeah, never said anything about a light roll  Looonie flared the rears out a little but the fronts were stock (light roll maybe, can't remember). When I fitted those wheels up with Looonie's suspension it was fine, no guard rub, but when I dropped it to the height above I had to pump out the fronts.

Like I said, nothing extreme, took me like half an hour each side with a guard roller. In hindsight, I would've been better off cutting the inner lip of the guard first, oh well.

My bulb is blown, no light from me on this one :D

Car still looks awesome Rah... need to see more pics/vids of the beast :D

Regarding OP question... the ricer in me says that 18x9 all round with two different tyre sizes is aesthetically un-pleasing.

So i ended up going 225/40R18 all round on 18x9 +15.

i tried 235/40 on the rear with little-to-no guard rolling and it didn't work well at all haha

turned out alright, functional height, but i'm going to go lower...

thanks man!

the colour worked out really awesome, its a factory Hyundai Veloster matte grey colour.

as for the skirts and rear lip, they are factory JZX100 parts from a Mark II (from what i understand) like these:

i just need to commit some time to get the skirts fitting right and fixing up the rear lip drivers side as it is currently made out of more cable ties than factory plastic...
