Front Mount on a JZX110

I'm hunting for an Intercooler at the moment. I am wanting to mount the intercooler like the 110 in this vid. I was told that I can't mount it this way as it changes the Frontal Impact zone (or something along those lines) and I won't be able to get a cert or WOF, Is this true? Does that mean the IC has to be mounted either under the main bar or behind it?

It is my understanding that you can do what you like as long as:

Nothing structural is weakend by cutting etc
No sharp protruding edges on the front of car

I have heard mention by certing people ( neil fraser ) about impact stuff,
but he still certed my old car with an aftermarket fmic.
I really think its only if you cut structural things as above or have sharp objects
sticking out etc..

keeping in mind you can not cut or remove the reinforcing bar ( the big long bar the supports the bumper and runs across the front ) if you do = fail cert

i ran with out one for ages intil neil fraser told me to put one back on

I haven't had a proper look but I was going to (hopefully) cut out the bumper and place the IC in front of the main support bar.

I spoke to the cert guy in Tokoroa yesterday and he said Im all good putting the IC infront of the main support bar, just cant remove the bar.

He also cleared up the law on Cat removal
1. Engine had factory Cat?
2. Car had factory Cat?

If you answer yes to both questions then Cat cannot be removed. If you answered no to either then Cat can be removed.

That's only for a car going for LVV certification. For a production car use the following questions:

1. Car had factory Cat?
2. Was the vehicle manufactured after 1 January 1990?
3. Was vehicle first registered in NZ on or after 1 May 2010?
4. Has an emissions test NOT been carried out and passed in decatted configuration?

If yes to all then cat cannot be removed.....
