GT3540 Turbo

Post by shweatypox »

Is the GT3540 turbo a good upgrade for the vvti 1jz? Or too much lag? Would I need to upgrade anything else? i.e Injectors, ECU etc

GT3076 with a .82 rear housing is a good match for the 1jz, depending on how much boost you want to run you could get by with the stock management and injectors. High flowing the stock turbo would be my pick for a street car.

I may be able to get my hands on a genuine GT3540 but wasn't sure if I could actually use it. I would idealy want to high flow my stock one but this turbo is a really good price.

Would it still be a good price after you've modified your manifold (adaptor?), exhaust, oil/water lines and intake/compressor outlet piping? :D Plus if it's externally gated you'll need one of those and either an after market manifold or do a bodgy job on the standard one.

If you can get it cheap enough.. Buy the steampipe
T3 manifold Sinco has on his shelf, and a external
Lines.. And bobs your auntie.
The 3540 aka 3582 is a good size for a balance
Between response and flow..

Hey mate ive got a 3540 on my vvti 1jz, custom manifold, injectors, exhaust etc and running a link g4 and i find it is a bit laggy but power does come on quite hard when it does, if you got it you could always get a smaller rear housing to eliminate some of the lag.
Hope that helps a little

the gt35/40 (gt3582r) comes in three different exhaust housing a.r options, 0.63, 0.86, and the 1.06. the easy way to find this is to look in the exhaust inlet from the manifold, about half an inch in at the rear end, (inside the exhaust inlet) it will be stamped with one of these numbers.
the 0.63 is the most responsive, thru to the 1.06 which will be the most laggy, but make the most power (like 800rwhp from a 1.06)

fyi, to make sure it isnt u awfull chinese piece of crap, it should have a red badge on the CHRA, (between compressor and turbine housings) that says "HONEYWELL GARRETT p/n 714568-5001" or close to this p/n depending on the turbo spec.

the 0.63 would be my pick, you can still screw 500 odd hp atw from this housing. very responsive for such a large turbo.

i have the 1.06 on my 13b bridgeport rx7 pushing 350kw, but even on a ported rotor its still quite laggy.

hope this helps man, want to know anymore just ask me.
