Hi team
in the process of hunting down a Torsen LSD for my 93' Cresta tourer S, as you will all know, it comes with a dirty open-diff.
I want to swap this out for a Torsen LSD.
Is it a simple 'drop the open-diff out, slap the LSD in' kind of procedure? or am i going to need more parts to make it work (such as input shafts etc)
TIA

You may need the whole subframe because I think the Tourer S comes with a 7.5" diff, so a tourer V 8" diff will not fit. Not 100% sure but thats the case with the 110's. Hope that helps .

thanks man, yakuza wrote:You may need the whole subframe because I think the Tourer S comes with a 7.5" diff, so a tourer V 8" diff will not fit. Not 100% sure but thats the case with the 110's. Hope that helps .
yeah ive been doing a bit of further research and have found that the JZX100 diff is a completely different size (8")
and the diff i need (if doing a straight swap) is an A01D (7.5")
the x100's run a B-series diff.
some info i found on JZXWorld
There are 4 digits.
1st one (A,B etc) = Series
2nd & 3rd (01 etc) = ratio. Ie 02 = 3.7, 01 = 4.01
4th digit (A,B,C,D,O) = type of diff. Ie torsen, open etc
I really want to avoid having to do the subframe swap as i have a large number of things on the 'to-do' list and they are to be done on a tight-ish budget haha
so the hunt commences for an A01D, i hope this info helps anyone else in the same predicament.

oh true?ch4sernz wrote:Altezza LSD should do it I believe
can anyone else confirm this? if so, it may be a road to go down... currently pricing a cusco 2-way haha

If you do you will need the Torsen stubs as well as the differ to open.
Looonie may have more info on this as he went down this path on his jzx90 before going 8"

Aparently TRD do a 7.5" 2-way that will fit inside the factory A01B diff housing, this is another road i am considering.ch4sernz wrote:If you do you will need the Torsen stubs as well as the differ to open.

basically, i just want to move away from the damn open diff without the use of a Mig... haha

To be honest, the way Toyota coded their diffs is really retarded. My JZX90 factory Tourer V manual has a diff code that is A02D, and it's obviously not a 7.5". "A" coded diffs can be both torsen and open which is really confusing.

yeah, its been a bit of a mission.yakuza wrote:To be honest, the way Toyota coded their diffs is really retarded. My JZX90 factory Tourer V manual has a diff code that is A02D, and it's obviously not a 7.5". "A" coded diffs can be both torsen and open which is really confusing.
i have spoken with a large number of people and had conflicting information, regarding what does what and the code that relates to it.
at this stage, it looks like i will be putting TRD gear into my factory diff (i really want to keep the 4.1 ratio if i can, as it is a daily)
it seems like Toyota NZ have never actually imported the diffs LSD or otherwise for JZX90's into the country, and the only way to get hold of one is off a wrecked vehicle.

Go measure the diameter of your inner CVs before you go doing anything.
I was under the impression the Tourer models had the larger 8" differential the same as the 2JZ-GE ones did. Although its possible the Tourer S did not.
Confirm what you've got before you pull anything apart or spend money.
Basically all but ignore axle codes for Toyota's from about 1991 onwards.
