W58 gearbox, please help!

Post by Jzs171-jp »

Hey guys I'm looking at putting a w58 behind my 1jzgte vvti. It's for my crown (same chassis as x110) I have a couple of questions about these. First are they really that weak? I'm gonna be running boost to around 1.0 bar with factory turbo etc etc so it's nothing crazy. Is this gearbox gonna grenade at the first sniff of drifting or have people found them ok?
Also being remote shift how far back does the shifter sit compared to a jzx100 r154? I'm gonna be purchasing next week so any info would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance guys!

Hey dude

In all honesty I wouldn't bother with the W58. Behind a NA motor they are great but if your pushing more that 200kw through them it won't last long at all. My JZA80's both had W58's and didn't last long at all before the v161's and R154 got put in place. With the shift I can't remember but I think its further back than the JZX shifters

Good luck with the box hunt

I put a w58 behind my 1jzge thinking it would be enough when i go turbo. Its not
I now have a 1jzgte and r154 sitting in the shed waiting.
Going w58 may cost half as much but it wont be the cheaper option when you destroy box after box

Just my opinion

stripped 4 boxes and 3 clutches in 3 years in my jz, 196kw atw stock motor with FMIC and 3" exhaust.

so no W series dont cut it, im currently deciding what to do now as well, r154 might have to be the go

Hi, there is a brand new r154 on trade me for the ridiculous price of 3000. These have sold for 8000 in the past. I brought one for my conversion, coming up.

I had a JZA80 W58 behind my 2jzgte making 223kw and i never had a problem. I gave it shit, plenty of clutch dumps and kicks. I was only running 205 wide tyres though and im assuming youll be running much wider

A JZX100 R154 and W58 will sit 10mm further back but it won't be too noticeable. Tristan has got a JZX100 R154 in his JZX110 and it looks fine. You can't really tell the difference unless you look very closely.

No problems with my w58 either. Im pretty sure the kind of abuse that kills a w58 would do a 154 as well. I ve replaced a 154 in my 110 after the previous owner was done with it.
