Tom's GX81 Chaser

Post by PowderJZX »

Hey guys Thomas here. Most of you here know me.. or not hahaha
I'm based in Auckland - Torbay/Northcross/Brownsbay ...
I daily drive a GX81. It was Kurt's old car. It was sitting in a farm with no future. Bought it to revive it and see what I could do to it I guess. Maybe I should call it Tom's Chaser?

Mods: It's got a cert plate - The car came with BCs and no driveline. It was pretty hard towing it from Takanini to Sunnynook with no power, at night and a 1.5m tow rope

Future plans? get that 1g sound, lower and rims..

Long story short (photo version)

It was like this when I got it but It was in a farm with a bonnet and a driveshaft sitting on the back seat(photo originally from Kurt's build thread) Image

Got the engine from greer and the gearbox through Alex with the gx61.
The next day we started working on the car. I replaced the front and back seals on the gearbox as well as the back seal on the engine and got the car going.. Thanks to the people in the photo for giving me a hand.

the day after that, I got WOF. It did fail on 3 things. Car was low (at certified height lol) handbrake needed adjustment and front wheel bearing is worn of.. But no biggie, I was so desperate to daily an X chassis anyway so I sussed all of it in a day. Wheel bearings were easier to replace than I thought it would be.

Mid year: nothing much happened due to a complicated situation.

Got read ended by an altezza - sat in the parking for 2 months only to be told by his insurance they will write it off coz they couldn't find the parts.. so I said I'll get it fixed myself.. they just gave me the money instead... funny how most of the panelbeaters quoted me 3500-4000 to get it fixed.. but I found one that was literally 10x cheaper... somewhere in ashfield road. he even offered to do extra bits for free.

A week later, It looked like nothing happened. Got new tips and moved the muffler 30mm inwards toward the engine to hide it and to make sure it doesn't burn the bumper in the future haha

I think this weekend, I'll give it a shot at replacing the headlights to FL ones. - come to think of it, I didn't spend much $$ on parts.... thanks to friends and friends overseas! Mostly, these parts ended really cheap... also the combined EMS saved me a bit of box weight haha.

Image

I'm just waiting for the wheels to arrive, itbs (just the throttle) as well as the genuine front lip. I probably won't install my steering wheel till January when my wheels arrive.
Image

I think I would like to work on the engine in the future.
I did play with height the other day..but hmmm... maybe next time!
