my JZX90 Cresta

Post by xMRWHIPPIEx »

hey guys,

realised i hadnt got on the introduction buzz yet, so here goes:

my name is Hamish and i reside in dirty east Auckland.

i purchased John B's old 1993 JZX90 Cresta Tourer S, modifications are as follows:

(how i bought it)
- JZX100 1jz-gte VVTi & R154 conversion with 110,000kms on the clock
- Blitz front mount
- HKS Stainless Exhaust
- unknown Air Filter
- HSD Coilovers
- Cusco Upper Front Arms with Camber adjustment
- Hardrace adjustable rear lower arms
- JZX100 Mark II frontlip
- Omori boost gauge

(additions so far)
- Advanti Tech-x 18x9 +15 front and rear with 225/40R18 Achilles ATR Sport-2 tyres
- JVC headunit w/ bluetooth, handsfree etc.
- AVS 5-star alarm + immobiliser

plans for the car are as follows:

- general tidy up of the body, lip-kits need plastic welding/serious TLC
- a respray in the factory 6N2 Dark Green Mica colour
- Origin Labo roof and boot spoiler goodies (still cant decide if i de-spoiler or not...)
- TRD 2-way or JZX100 rear sub-frame with B series Torsen LSD
- hi-flow the factory C15 turbo (via Steve Murch)
- Street Tune through Soichi at ST-HiTech
- Cusco sway bars (the rear bar especially)
- Enkei 17" wheels and semi slicks for the odd track day
- install Apexi AFC Neo and Dakota Digital speed & tacho interface unit to sort out the accuracy of the speedo (reads 120kph when actual speed is 105kph, on factory 16" wheels)
- re-cert once speedo + tacho is sorted on 18's

car is currently sitting at cert height, but i do plan to drop it another 20mm or so.

Nice car man. I personally think you should get the whole subframe with the 8" torsen. Mainly because thats probably the only thing not making it a full tourer V now and because it's much more drive able than a 2-way.

I think I remember this car!
"Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car.
Oversteer is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car.
Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall,
Torque is how far you take the wall with you."

Just adding my 2c, I have a TRD 2 way in my daily JZX100 and it seems to be no different to the open wheeler it once had in terms of drivability, there is only a tiny bit of skip during tight U turns.

Thats cool. I've never driven a car with a 2-way but from what I've heard, I thought they would be a pain to drive with. But then again, not all 2-ways are the same.

Yeah good point, I had heard stories saying a 2 way will clunk and rattle etc while driving down the street however this has not been the case with mine, cant comment how other brands perform though. (TRD also seems to be the cheapest out there for X100 atm)

Hamish, I have a 2 way and yes it is pretty "clunky" on grippy seal..on turns its pretty brutal on the rear end, and even in general driving it can be a little hard to hide, but when you need both wheels to go, a stab of the clutch to get a bit of action going it does the job well.Your always welcome to come have a ride..
