Jake's GX71 Mark II

Post by ohyeahjake »

Name: Jake
Where your from: NZ born and bred
What you do: Law student / promotional manager
Car you own: '88 GX71 Mark II
Mods and future plans: I wanna just restore the exterior to show room condition, fix all the minor problems like the tape deck etc but other than that I am in love with everything about it. I have owned enough cars to know these things never go to plan
Next car you want to buy: No one knows
Why you joined JZX NZ: I bought the car off of Thomas and it was already adorned with a JZX NZ sticker so I figured I would join in on the fun

Thanks guys, yeah I always hear from my dad that he wish he held on to these cars when he was younger and now that I have one of my own there is no way I am going to give it up! I have started cleaning the engine bay at the moment so it should be looking showroom quality fairly soon. I have some Eagle Racing leads for it as well that are black so they're better performance but they're black and have no markings on them so they look factory. At the moment I am all about keeping the car looking factory but a very long way down the track I want to put a 1GZ-FE into it and make it the ultimate luxury car.

Put the fogs on yesterday, thought I would update with some pictures. I absolutely love how they look on and the wiring and mounting all looks very factory even though it was done by me, a friend and a box of beer

Nice and factory looking wiring

And the finished product is great!!

Wow. It was silver all along!
Same thing with mine. It was real filthy when I first got it. Used a whole can of degresser just on the engine.. Bought 4 more since then :)

nice! just watch out for the oil inside the engine. if a bit of degreaser got in the engine somehow, especially through the rocker cover, change the oil immediately.

Happened to my corolla once...

Haha yeah that was a whole can, I am buying this stuff called Simple Green which is apparently awesome for getting it all off and is a bit less harmful to the environment. None made it into the engine everything was taped up so none could get in and all of my gaskets are sweet. I will update more pictures when I finish cleaning it this weekend. I am thinking I will paint the rocker cover plain silver and black for all the writing, opinions?
