There is a fair bit to setting up a c&p into a diff.
I have the workshop manual section somewhere with torque settings, backlash measurements etc

Otherwise any
Reasonable diff shop would be as to set it up for you

How much work is it to swap the final drive gears around? I have heard the hilux FD is interchangable with ours which would make things easy to source.
I'm running a JZA70 c&p in mine. G series hilux should also be a drop in from what I have looked at.
I tried to fit a hilux centre but it was too narrow for my diff housing so I bought a torsen instead with the half shafts so there were no dramas while fitting it.

I run a 4.3. I think the whole "3rd turns to 2nd" is a bit of an exaggeration, although it does make a big difference over a 3.9, from memory my speedo reads 117kph when I'm sitting at 100  To be honest, the 4.3 + r154 still feels a bit long legged to me, compared to other cars anyway. I'm keen to try a 4.5...

Did you try to just fit the crown and pinion though?

Didn't you buy a late model sheep shagger shape hilux center?
They are a different setup to earlier hilux diffs

Yeah I tried to fit a late model 2003 hilux centre.

I took it to Steelie gears in Auckland and they guy opened up my diff and measured both centres. The hilux one was slightly narrower. I didn't fit the crown and pinion as I assumed that I could fit my original crown from my open diff as both of them were 8" diffs.

Pre sheep shagger is a different diff. That's the one you want

I don't need it anymore but good for someone who needs an LSD. Is the hilux LSD predictable? I heard that it has a tendency to go open?

Yes they can go open, but there is ways around that.
If it is an ok worn LSD then ur there will not be much drive between both sides

I have shimmed my diff and added extra centre spring to give more bite
Also sand blaste friction plates and spacers for more drive

Huge improvement over a std hilux/supra and also over my Torsen (only when sideways)
