1jz 5spd conversion - backing plate

Been going through all my manual parts to make sure I have everything before I rip my car to bits. Found I dont have a backing plate that goes between the flywheel and engine. But then I was looking under my car and the 1jz sump connects to the bottom of the bellhousing leaving no gaps. So I need to know do I need a backing plate? Do standard manual jzs even have them?
