Supply and demand. If there is a market for knock of goods then people will supply supply cheap chinese copies.

But its not just Work wheels, there are the cheap chinses tyres that copy popular brands. Greddy 'style' goods all over trademe. What about the thousands of generic brand Mp3 players that look suspicisously like iSheep's iPods. Bands all over the world have dodgy unofficial t-shirts made up - they dont see a cut... and then there is pirated games/OS/movies/music. Who here has never downloaded or copied music or movies?

Dont get me wrong, I am not a fan of copied crap as 95% of the time it is just crap. But i wont be losing any sleep over it.

And if you want to understand how big the pirated goods industry is then read "Gomorrah" (Italian mafia)

It's just the blatant design ripoff that annoys me. Advanti are the worst that I've see. They absolutely pillage Advan designs (I've just realised their name is even suspiciously similar  )

Advanti Vallan: http://www.yhi.co.nz/newsite/product.ph ... large=true
Advan Model F7: http://www.advanwheels.com.au/wheels/wheel.aspx?id=18

Advanti Racing V3 Vago: http://www.advantiwheel.com/wheel.cfm?id=57
Advan Racing RZ: http://www.advanwheels.com.au/wheels/wheel.aspx?id=6

Advanti Aztecx: http://www.yhi.co.nz/newsite/store/cat1 ... ztecx.html
Advan Model T5: http://www.advanwheels.com.au/wheels/wheel.aspx?id=21

They made some other garbage a few years back, which mirrored Work XT7's as well.

Also the IFR wastegates that look EXACTLY like TiAL ones but have the IFR logo. They word the title of the auction as 'Genuine IFR wastegate' :x and then go ahead and copy the description specs direct from TiAL's spec sheet. Funny thing is you can now buy the real deal genuine TiAL's cheaper than the knockoff shit if you shop around  :?

Don't wanna sound like an elitest asshole, but if you can't afford, or can't justify the cost of genuine parts, either don't buy them, or find a workaround that doesn't involve supporting Chinese/Taiwanese fake junk. E.g. I couldn't justify the cost of a genuine HKS/Greddy/etc blow off valve, so I bought an Evo 9 GT one for $40. I've run 24psi on it with no leaking. Trademe knockoff intercoolers are rubbish but I couldn't justify spending $$$ on an expensive Japanese/US intercooler... so I bought an R33 Skyline 600x300 cooler for $100, works bloody mint! I mean heck, before I bought my TiAL wastegate I ran a Porsche 944 (i think) wastegate that I bought off trademe for fuck all, worked sweet! There's always a way around things without resorting to cheapening your car by bolting knockoff junk onto it! :)

people seam to forget as good as work wheels are they too started off making rip offs of other wheels such as rays/volk, August Feroce etc list goes on

look at them now, one of best looking wheel brands around........properly the most thrashed too for the fan boy etc ( hey i dig the shit out of them too )

rota and koya are also very very good wheels, even tho no one has mentioned them as of yet, both companys at teh moment ( have been for a wee while ) are doing rip offs of work/rays/enkis wheels
which in all honesty are not too shabby.......please igonore those pic's kicking around teh enet about the rota wheels breaking, you have to read the forum thread in regards to it, blowin way out of preportion liek the internet does oh so well

like i have said before each to there own, wheels make or break a car, and alot of the time people can not afford the top of the line wheels and go with the next best thing
curb |kərb| kerb

Na im all for buying genuine. I could go out today and buy some shit knock off jdm 80's rims but instead im guna spend hours on yahoo japan and alot more money to buy the perfect set of jdm real wheels. And the thing is when i finally get them and fit them it will feel a million times better than sitting and watching the guys at hyper fit the fakes for me. Id be ashamed of myself for butchering my car like that. and at the end of the day if you dont car about whether your wheels are fake or real that you dont really care about cars at all.

Guys, read this! Dooooo ittt!

http://www.bespokeventures.com/blog/201 ... knockoffs/

To sum it up..
People want to compare costs of knockoff bumpers to the cost of an authentic bumper as if the authentic bumper is unfair, overpriced and should be less. Let me make this point as clear as possible. When it costs $30,000 to produce the first bumper by the authentic maker and yet it costs $1000 for the knockoff maker to buy an authentic bumper and knock it off…do you think it’s fair to compare the costs of each one side by side? That’s assuming the quality is the same which it never is. If magically the authentic companies could remove all of the R&D costs from their products and have the same business model as the knockoff companies where it costs almost nothing to make a new product – you can be sure the costs would be much less. People think it is price gouging but in reality most of these authentic companies can’t even get their money back half the time, never mind make a profit. And the knockoff company that is paying $150 to produce a bumper and is selling it for $450 with no R&D costs…they’re the ones gouging by charging a 300% markup and making instant profit on sale #1 because they have no expenses into it. Which one will you support? Which one is getting your money to buy ads in the magazines and get the big booths at SEMA? Which ones are growing their companies on their customer’s money? Which ones are left with a surplus of cash to be able to give away free product to hundreds of show cars and magazine cars to perpetuate the hype and legitimize the lie?

As a result of all of this, a standard is created that fake is acceptable and that whatever a car looks like on the surface is primarily what matters. The common excuse is that the parts cost too much and people think that running knockoffs simply saves them money and has no negative effect on the brand, however that’s far from true. For each person who fakes it and runs knockoffs it helps reward the companies who steal the design and produce those parts while at the same time it promotes the idea of knockoffs being ok and encourages others to do it by:
A. showing that it’s accepted on message boards, local car meets and in magazines
and
B. creating more profit incentive for the knockoff producers to knockoff more things and promote and sell more knockoff parts since it’s easy and cheap to do and pays them well.
It’s a domino effect. But if you ask those guys who run the knockoffs they conveniently overlook all of those facts and remind you that they saved a bunch of money and that they couldn’t have bought the parts otherwise.

im all for top notch quality gear, but theres a point where you are simply buying a brand for the sticker....
